ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA [┗ロック列伝]
エレクトリック・ライト・オーケストラ (Electric Light Orchestra)、略称ELOは、イギリスのバーミンガム出身のロックバンド。
ELOといえば、いまや大抵の人はドラマ「電車男」の主題歌、「Twilight」となるだろう・・・か？！
私がELOの曲として初めて知ったのは、同じアルバム内の「Hold on Tight」である。当時流行り出したシンセを使った軽快なポップス、虜になったものだった。ところが、それ以前の曲を聴いた時、『これもELOだったんだ！』とビックリした曲があった。・・・「Last Train To London」・・・中学時代、ディスコブームで、ロンドンのラジオから何度か聴いた曲。ディスコぽく、ベースラインが・・・そう、ロッドの「I'm sexy」みたいな感じだったので、いい歌だな～と当時思っていた。
彼らの曲はどこかで聴いた事がある曲が結構多い。「Mr. Blue Sky」なんか特にビートルズっぽいし、「Confusion」はアランパーソンズっぽいし、「Strange Magic」はしっとりとAORっぽく、聴けば聴くほど味わい深いサウンドが多い。
ザ・ムーブからの発展という形で1970年に活動を開始、1971年にレコードデビュー。1970年代から1980年代にかけて世界的な人気を博し「ロックとクラシックの融合」を目指した「世界最小のオーケストラ集団」。
ビートルズの影響によるポップなメロディラインにストリングスを導入したユニークなバンドで、このサウンドがなんとも良かった。その後、シンセサイザーを多用した、よりポップなサウンドへ変化していき、メンバーの脱退から解散へと追い込まれてしまった。

あんまりまじめに聴いてないんだよね。
だから知ってるのは80年代くらいかな。
むしろプロデュースしたGeorge Harrisonの"cloud9"とかの方が聴いてるなぁ。
独特の色が出ていていいアルバムですよ。
