BLACK SABBATH [┗ロック列伝]
ブラック・サバス（Black Sabbath）は、イギリスのバーミンガムで結成され1970年にデビューしたロックバンド。ヘヴィメタルの元祖の一つとして知られる伝説的なバンドである。
●ソロとして活動したオジーからなのか、レインボーを脱退したロニーが加入したことから知ったのか、定かではないが、初めてサバスのアルバムをきちんと聴いたのは、80年発表の「Heaven and Hell 」だから、多分ロニーを通じて知ったのかな。また、ミュージックライフの新譜情報で見かけたこのアルバムのジャケットにも惹かれた面もあったと思う。
トニーの重々しいギターに、結構練習になったベースライン、音質面で時代の変化はあるが、サウンド・メロディはサバスらしさをずっと変わらない気がする。オジー時代の曲もその後聴くようになって、やっぱり偉大なバンドだな～と再認識。
●思い出といえば、大学在籍中に後輩がどうしてもやりたいからと「Heaven & Hell 」その他1曲か2曲、ライブした事。ヤバイ、演奏した曲名が思い出せなくなっている・・・＾＾； でもヘブン＆ヘルを弾けて気持ち良かった～♪
1度きりのライブだったけど、その頃ロニーのようにきちんと歌える同期のヴォーカル、岩ちゃんもいたからこそ、気持ち良く演奏出来た。ただ、彼の難点は喉が弱い事。練習しすぎると声が枯れちゃって、高音が出なくなるんだよね。
●そして、もうひとつ。
社会人時代での後輩の結婚披露パーティーの時。ライブハウスでクラブの連中が皆集まって、みんなでセッションをした訳だが、その時俺は「Paranoid」を弾いた。昔、練習の時の合間に遊びで弾く事はあったけど、こうしてライブでまともに弾いたのは初めて、なんか感激したな～。

ジャズやブルースを基調とし、「人を怖がらせる音楽を作る」というコンセプトで作られた音楽性は後のヘヴィ・メタルに多大な影響を与えた。その怪奇的なイメージでたびたび黒魔術や悪魔と結び付けられ、ギターのトニー・アイオミがアメリカン・ツアーの最中、狂信者に楽屋で刃物を突きつけられたという危険なエピソードもある。
結成時のヴォーカルはオジー・オズボーンだったが、1979年に脱退。後任としてレインボーのヴォーカリスト、ロニー・ジェイムス・ディオが加入した。その後、イアン・ギランやグレン・ヒューズなど、ディープ・パープルの歴代シンガーがヴォーカルを担当していた。1987年以降はトニー・マーティン、1992年から1993年にかけて一時的にロニー・ジェイムス・ディオが復帰している。それにしてもリッチー・ブラックモアに絡んだメンバーの出入りが多いこと（＾＾；
日本ではアルバムがさほど売れなかったが、デビュー以来5作連続プラチナディスク獲得の快挙を成し遂げたり、アメリカではオジー・オズボーンのソロでの成功もあり、日本人の想像を絶する人気が今でもある。日本ではロード・ウォリアーズの入場曲となった"IRON MAN"や"PARANOID"が特に有名か。
時代の変化に応じ、路線がいろいろと変化したサバスであるが、アイオミが繰り出す重厚なサバスサウンドは不変であり、現在はバンド名を「へヴン＆ヘル」として活動中。オリジナル・メンバーで演奏しなければサバスというバンド名はもう使わないという事か・・・。

サバス抜けても"paranoido"や"iron man"をライブでやっちゃうんだから、オジーも思い入れがあるんだろうね。

良く聴いたなぁ～
重いギターと コージーパウエルの重いドラムが心地よかったような・・・
Dio復帰作にがっかりした事を思い出しました。
久しぶりに棚から探して聴いてみようかなぁ・・・

zep.purple,sabbathと３つのバンドでしたね～当時
アイオミの3音低いチューニングから出てくる重いリフは
このバンド以外ではない音ですね＾＾
以外ですが5作目と7作目がキーアルバムです
特に7作目はその後のオジーのソロワークを示唆している
面白い作風ですね。ポップになった、、、しかしリフはよりヘビーに
なっている、この対比が当時は賛否両論です。

私は80年から聴き始めましたので、それ以前のはＦＭ等でのベストセレクトでしか知らないんです。今度、どのように作風が変化していったか、聴き比べてみたいです＾＾
